A. Campo Baeza wins the Attolini Medal awarded by the University of Mexico

This distinction rewards good architecture that inspires young architects.

Architect Alberto Campo Baeza has won the 2017 Attolini Medal awarded by the School of Architecture at the Anahuac University of Mexico.

This distinction is annually granted to outstanding internationally renowned architects and represents the highest award given by this University. Previous winners include renowned architects such as Alvaro Siza, Vieira, and Andrés Casillas in 2016.

The Attolini Medal was established in November 2006 with the fundamental objective of “rewarding and recognizing only good architecture that inspires and encourages young architects to pursue an ideal in their academic life.”

The award ceremony took place in Mexico City on Wednesday, October 27, 2017. Nominated and awarded on multiple occasions, the architect, originally from Valladolid but raised in the essence of Cádiz, has filled spaces throughout Spain, Italy, and New York with his beautiful, white, sober, sensitive, and thoughtful architecture.

Among his notable creations in Cádiz are the Casa del Infinito, Casa Gaspar, and the Mirador Entre Catedrales, as well as the Benetton Nursery in Venice and Caja Granada in Granada.

This newly received medal joins other significant distinctions such as the Torroja Prize, the XIII BEAU Prize, the Awards Architecture Prize, the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal, the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the BigMat Awards in Berlin, and the International Spanish Architecture Prize, among many others. He was a finalist for the FAD Awards and nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award. Additionally, in 2011 he was named an Honorary Member by the College of Architects of Cádiz.
